A Scottish mum-of-two has been crowned 'the fittest woman on earth over 45'. Ali Crawford was given the title after finishing first in the Female Masters 45-49 age group at The 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games in Wisconsin, USA, last week.
The annual athletic competition, which started back in 2007, sees the greatest athletes "in the sport of fitness " take on five days of competition in a bid to become the fittest on Earth. The impressive victory for Ali, from East Kilbride, saw her go one better than her second-place finish at last year's competition, reports Glasgow Live.
Ali became the first Scot to qualify for The Games back in 2018, when she finished in 14th position. And now, just four years on, she's made it to the top of the podium in her age category.
She said: "Genuinely, the support from the Scottish CrossFit community has been unreal. I literally got hundreds and hundreds of messages via social media.
"As much as it was just my friend Gillian and I over in Wisconsin, I didn't have friends and family there, I definitely had a lot of support from the Scottish CrossFit community. Obviously it's quite a big thing winning the CrossFit Games in your age group and everybody obviously is quite motivated by it. I had lots of support."
In a social media post, CrossFit Airdrie said Ali's brilliant win over in the United States "will inspire the next generation".
It read: "Massive shout out to Ali Crawford for a huge victory at the CrossFit games. A lot of discipline and hard work has payed off over the past year and will inspire the next generation. Well done Ali."
