Scots man found guilty of 'brutal' murder of 'much loved son' in Port Glasgow

A man has been convicted of murder following the death of a 28-year-old man in Port Glasgow.

Daniel Langman, 48, was found guilty of killing Anthony Collins at a property on Mackie Avenue in the Inverclyde town on Sunday May 16 2021, following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow that concluded on Monday. Cops were called to the address at around 3.30pm on May 16 2021 and launched a murder inquiry following a post-mortem.

The "brutal" attack has been condemned by the detectives who were tasked with investigating it. On Monday, they welcomed the conviction after helping to bring Langman to justice.

Detective Inspector Nikki Wake, of Greenock CID, said: “This was a brutal attack that has left Anthony’s family absolutely devastated and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

"While nothing can change what has happened, I hope that this conviction brings at least a degree of closure for his relatives and friends.

“Langman will now have to face the consequences of his actions. I would like to thank Anthony’s family, friends and those in the wider community who helped officers during this enquiry.”

In a statement released at the time of the killing, Anthony's family had paid tribute to "a much loved son, brother, uncle and friend."

The statement added: "Tony was loved by many, he was such a fun loving character who made everyone laugh. He had a heart of gold and touched the hearts of everyone he met.

"We are beyond heartbroken as family and cannot put in to words the impact this has had on us all. Life will never be the same without him."
