A dilapidated Fife house filled with rubbish and a mountain of discarded beer cans has sold for more than 50% above its original asking price at auction.
The terraced property on Alexander Road in Glenrothes hit the headlines last week after the photos taken by Auction House Scotland showed its interior strewn with litter. Every room, from the living and dining room and kitchen through to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom, was lined with rubbish.
Auctioneers optimistically described the dwelling as having "excellent potential" - and clearly, the buyer at Friday's auction held at Glasgow's Radisson Red hotel felt the same way. In the end, the property fetched £64,250, around 60% more than the original guide price of £39,999.
The Record reported how the house was in need of dire TLC from any willing buyer after it went up for sale. It is believed to have been the cheapest property on sale in Glenrothes at the time.
Photos taken inside the home showed peeling wallpaper, scattered rubbish, a growing pile of Stella Artois beer cans and detritus lining everything from the fully fitted kitchen to the ready installed bathtub.
Auctioneers even shared a video walkthrough on the property's online listing, with images of the rubbish-strewn living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms set to upbeat music.
Potential bidders were even invited to visit the home themselves during an "open house" event on Thursday, ahead of the auction on September 2.
Mandi Cooper, managing director of Auction House Scotland, previously said: "Although requiring a complete refurbishment, it has excellent potential for a first-time buyer, investor or for those looking for a family home.”
