A young Scots girls was overwhelmed to be reunited with her lost teddy after it went missing inside her suitcase on a British Airways flight.
Little Lucy McKay, 9, was devastated when her pink comforter teddy, Popo, who she has had since she was a tiny baby, disappeared alongside her case on a flight from Edinburgh to Palma on July 2.
Lucy, from Lanark, was flying with her mum Kirsty, dad Martin and sister Sophie, 12 ,to Palma before they were due to board a dream Mediterranean cruise, when the family realised Lucy's case hadn't arrived with the rest of their baggage.
Kirsty, 38, told the Daily Record Lucy cried herself to sleep for the first three nights of their trip because she missed Popo so much.
She added: "She is attached to it. She's slept with it every night since she was born and to not have it was devastating for her.
"She was just absolutely gutted and cried for the first three nights of our holiday. Her dad felt so guilty because he was the one who told her to put in her suitcase rather than her hand luggage."
As well as not having Popo, Lucy also had no clothes for her two-week holiday.
She was forced to share her older sister Sophie's for most of their trip.
Kirsty added: "The situation definitely put a damper on our trip. We had to use our spending money to buy her some stuff to wear, but couldn't buy her clothes for the full fortnight we were there.
"She had to share with Sophie instead. She was wearing t-shirt's as dresses because they were massive on her."
Dad Martin said he filled out a lost suitcase form in Palma Airport, but said the family were not kept in the loop as to if and when they would get it back.
He added: "I was phoning and emailing constantly, but I felt like nobody wanted to help and I was being passed from pillar to post.
"I was actually on hold to British Airways yesterday when I heard a knock at the door and it was a man standing there with the case. I could have cried with happiness because I knew how much it would mean to Lucy."
Martin and Kirsty said they were delighted to finally have the case and Popo back in their possession and wanted to make the reunion with their daughter a special one.
Before Lucy returned home from a sleepover at her friend's house, the couple went and got a welcome home balloon and card and tied it to Popo as a surprise for the youngster.
Martin added: "Her face when she first saw him was priceless. She couldn't believe it and wouldn't stop cuddling him. We were all just so happy that she had got him back because we know just how much he means to her. She slept like a log last night because she had her wee pal back."
A spokesperson for British Airways said: "The bag has now been reunited with our customer and we apologise for the delay and inconvenience caused."
