Scots firm hoping to fill gap left by original recipe Irn-Bru with new 'Brew' drink

A Scots firm is hoping to fill the gap left by the original recipe of IRN-BRU with a new 'Brew' drink.

'Brew' drink is brought to the market by Scoffable, Scotland’s easy-order takeaway service. The drink does not contain any artificial sweeteners and is being handcrafted in small batches in Scotland.

The recipe for the drink has been painstakingly perfected and developed over years to meet the gap in the market, and according to Scoffable, their customers didn't want reduced sugar recipes.

Co-founder Daniel Jones explains: "After the Soft Drinks Levy (more often known as the Sugar Tax) was introduced in Scotland, many soft drinks manufacturers changed the recipe of their drinks to reduce the amount of sugar.

"This fundamentally changed the taste, as the drink either had to become less sweet or the flavour had to be created using artificial sweeteners (which can leave a harsh aftertaste). Lovers of the affected drinks were left without their favourites, and there is a clear trend in Scoffable order data showing a shift away from these products to other options."

A box of 12, 330ml bottles cost £23.99 (Scoffable Brew)

BREW has already caught the attention of influencers, including Glasgow's very own Dazza.

In a video posted on Facebook, Dazza said: "It is like fruity but it is not fruity, it is not fruit juice, it is orange, it is called BREW, you're going to think of IRN-BRU but at the same time this is a completely separate product."

Dazza laughed, "It tastes like BREW, it tastes like BREW, that is what it tastes like."

He finished off by saying: "I've tried it and I like it, it is as simple as that."

Co-founder Michael Brown went onto say: "Creating BREW has been a labour of love for us.

"Initially, it’s fair to say that neither Daniel nor I had any idea of what was involved in creating a soft drink and this project started out with curiosity about whether we could create something we personally would like to drink. Now we have boxes ready to deliver to customers and it’s hugely exciting to have something ready to share with the world."

The product is available from brew.scoffable.com in boxes of 12 x 330ml glass bottles for £23.99, including delivery.
