Fire crews saved a miniature Jack Russell trapped down rabbit holes in a dramatic rescue mission near Stonehaven
Emergency services rushed to the scene after little Fred got stuck in Dunnottar Woods. The dog's panicked owner called 999 before fire crews from Stonehaven and Inverbervie raced to the scene.
Firefighters spent an hour digging at the woodland area as they desperately searched for Fred before the pooch was eventually lifted to safety, reports Aberdeen Live. The incident happened on Wednesday, July 27 - and the following week Fred's owner visited Stonehaven Fire Station to personally thank the rescuers.
Crew Commander Gavin Strachan, who was one of the firefighters on scene, said: "Both crews worked extremely hard, and it was very pleasing to see Fred was okay.
"It’s always relieving when you are able to have such a positive outcome and reunite a pet with their owner, especially when they are unscathed."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have reiterated that the station is crewed by on call firefighters who respond to emergencies via a pager system. For more information visit firescotland.gov.uk.
