Scots drug kingpin Jamie 'Iceman' Stevenson among UK's most wanted in Spain

A Scottish drug kingpin known as ‘The Iceman’ has been listed among a new appeal to track down some of the UK’s most wanted men thought to be hiding in Spain.

James Stevenson, also known as Jamie, is being pursued by officers after border control staff seized around one tonne of cocaine found in an unaccompanied freight container in Dover.

Drug cops also shut down a suspected pill factory responsible for manufacturing more than 28 million ‘street valium’ tablets believed to be connected to the 56-year-old in June 2020 during a raid on a premises in Kent.

Stevenson, also nicknamed Bull, was arrested in connection with the seizure but released on police bail and is subsequently thought to have fled the country.

It comes as the National Crime Agency warned the 12 men on their list that Spain was “not a safe haven” for the UK’s criminals.

Stevenson, whose whose last known address was in Fishescoates Gardens in Rutherglen, Glasgow, may also hold crucial information on two suspected fire attacks at properties in the Lanarkshire and Forth Valley areas in May 2020.

He is described as stocky and has a scar on his face and is known to have connections in Barcelona and Alicante.

Members of the public have been urged not to approach Stevenson if they see him, but instead contact the relevant authorities.

The National Crime Agency's (NCA) regional head of investigation for Scotland, Gerry McLean, said: "Stevenson is one of Scotland's most wanted fugitives.

"He knows we are looking for him in connection with organised crime on both sides of the border.

"The NCA and Police Scotland will not rest until he is captured. Anyone who is helping him stay on the run will be targeted too."

The NCA's Most Wanted campaign is run in conjunction with independent charity CrimeStoppers, Spanish law enforcement and UK policing.

All the men featured are believed to have links to mainland Spain and the Canary Islands.

Steve Rodhouse, the NCA's director general of operations added: "Many of these fugitives will be trying to blend in to the large British communities who have made their homes in Spain, and if you are resident, you may know one of them from your town or village.

"Loyalties change over time and we urge anyone with information about these men to help us find them."
