Scots drug dealer caught with £33k of heroin after cops swoop on train station

A drug dealer was caught with £33,000 of heroin after cops swooped on a Scots railway station.

Kerr Halliday was arrested at Eskbank Railway Station in Midlothian after officers received a tip-off.

The 25-year-old claimed he was transporting the haul from the Scottish Borders to pay off a £5000 debt resulting from his cocaine habit.

Halliday appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday and pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug.

Fiscal depute Sanah Idrees said police staked out the train platform and detained Halliday upon his arrival.

Ms Idrees said two bags, each containing 246g of brown powder, were found in Halliday’s jacket pockets.

The court heard the powder was analysed and found to contain heroin, paracetamol and caffeine.

Ms Idrees said each bag could realise up to £16,420 if the heroin was sold in £10 deals.

She said Halliday was taken to St Leonards police station in Edinburgh where he told officers he’d travelled to Eskbank from Galashiels.

The prosecutor said Halliday claimed he was meeting an “unnamed person” at a Tesco store and didn’t know what the bags contained.

The court heard Halliday told how he’d run up £5000 in debt from his cocaine use and “was under the impression if he made the delivery his debt would be cleared”.

Halliday admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs on May 25 last year.

Defence agent Mark Harrower said his client was a dad who was unemployed and lived in Galashiels.

Sheriff Kenneth Campbell QC deferred sentence until next month for reports.
