Scots deliver damning verdict on Labour Government in major new poll

SUPPORT for Scottish Labour has plummeted according to a major new poll.

The Survation survey, commissioned by Angus Robertson’s firm Progress Scotland, found that Scottish Labour's support has fallen by nine points since May this year in terms of Westminster voting intention, from 40% to 31%.

This drop brings the SNP level with Scottish Labour at 31% as well. Meanwhile, the Scottish Conservative saw a further drop to 14% (-4) as Reform solidify their support at 11% and the Lib Dems on 9% (below).

It comes as Labour have faced condemnation for Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to cull Winter Fuel Payments, with millions of pensioners losing out.

Scottish Labour insiders have also told the Daily Record that members have quit in anger over the decision.

Scottish Labour’s fall is reflected in Holyrood voting intention, with Anas Sarwar’s party dropping nine points on the list vote as well.

This has meant the SNP now lead Scottish Labour with 28% (-2) compared with 26% (-9).

Of note, the Scottish Greens saw their support rise to 10% – bringing the party equal with Reform.

The Scottish Conservatives have dropped to 14% (-4) and the LibDems have increased slightly to 10% (below).

The Survation survey also reported that the majority of Scots (56%) think the country will be independent within 20 years.

Less than one-third of Scots adults (31%) said they think Scotland will never become independent.

Commenting, SNP depute leader Keith Brown said: “It is neither sustainable or credible for Westminster to continue deny democracy in Scotland.

“With the Labour Westminster government continuing to inflict the same cruel austerity agenda on people across Scotland, it is clear Scots know they deserve a chance to build a better future as an independent country.

“Whether it’s the NHS, schools, the cost of living or energy prices, independence is the solution to the concerns of people in Scotland and the SNP is focussed on making the merits of campaign clear to everyone in Scotland.”

Survation polled 2059 Scottish adults between September 10 and 13, 2024.

Progress Scotland is a limited company controlled by Constitution Secretary Robertson.
