Scots cyclist attacked by men who then ran over his bike in stolen car

Police in Dundee are probing an unusual attack in which a cyclist was attacked by two men who then used a stolen car to wreck his bike.

Witnesses have told police that the man was attacked by two men in Dundonald Street in the east coast city, between Ogilvie Street and North Erskine Street, at around 3.25am on Sunday May 21. The attackers then used a silver Hyundai i10 hatchback to run over his bike, causing "extensive damage".

Officers say that the motor was reported as stolen but has since been recovered. The victim of the incident has not been identified and did not report it to police, who have since issued an appeal for information and to trace the person affected.

Police have issued descriptions of those involved. The cyclist is described as wearing a black and grey Nike hooded jumper with what police branded an "obvious" large white Nike symbol on the back.

The first attacker is described as being a man in his 20s, around 5ft 7ins tall and of average build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a black zipped top with a white logo on the chest and back, possibly North Face.

The second aggressor is described as 6ft tall, of average build, wearing a black down jacket, white t-shirt, black trousers and a dark baseball cap. A woman was in their company, describe as being in her 20s, tall and of slim build, with long dark hair.

She is described as wearing a green dress under a dark green cropped jacket, and black socks with orange sliders. Police have urged anyone with information on those involved to come forward.

Investigators are also keen to speak to the occupants of a Volkswagen Tiguan that was seen to drive past the incident at least twice as it unfolded.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A male cyclist was assaulted by two other persons in the street, who then used a car to drive over his bicycle causing extensive damage. The car used was a silver Hyundai i10 that had been reported stolen but has since been recovered.
