Scots council worker lands £100k Audi and £30k cash from £2 competition ticket

A Scots council worker has made 2022 his year after finding out he'll be a grandad, preparing to turn 50, and by winning an £100,000 Audi.

Scott Mathieson, an Aberdeen City Council operations manager, was surprised at home by Virgin Radio host Christian Williams who told him he had netted the RS6 Avant performance car and £30,000 cash.

The 49-year-old had paid £2 to enter a spot-the-ball competition with online prizegiving company BOTB.

And when radio host Christian turned up at his home in Angus to tell him the good news he said: "Really? I've never won anything in my life."

Scott, from Brechin, has been entering BOTB competitions for three years.

The low-cost contest uses ex-professional footballers and referees to judge entries - with the winners netting themselves cars, holidays and money.

He celebrated the win alongside wife Sarah and his three daughters after being shown the briefcase of £30k in notes that had also been stashed in the Audi's boot.

“I didn’t think this year could get any better,” Scott said.

“I’m becoming a grandad, I’m turning 50 and now I’ve won BOTB.”

"[The money] will definitely come in handy with our first granddaughter on the way.

"It’s a life-changing prize for us.”

The Audi Scott played for boasts a V8 twin-turbo engine capable of putting out 591 brake horsepower and a maximum of 800 newton-metres of torque.

That means a 0-60mph time of less than four seconds - more than enough for a family runabout, and then some.

Prize-giver Christian, who tours the country handing out BOTB prizes, said: “The Audi RS6 Avant is one of our most popular cars in the BOTB line up and I’m so excited for Scott to get behind the wheel.

"He seems like a great guy and it was a pleasure to be the one to give him the good news.”
