Scots cops injured before Rangers v Motherwell match after missile thrown at police van

Two Police Scotland officers have been injured after a missile was thrown at a police van ahead of the Rangers v Motherwell clash in Glasgow on Sunday.

Emergency services attended the 'disturbance' at Govan Cross in Glasgow at around 2.30pm on Sunday, February 27.

It came ahead of the SPFL Premiership match at Ibrox, half an hour before the 3pm kick-off.

Two officers - one male and one female - sustained minor cuts as a result of a missile being launched.

The sun roof of a police van was also smashed during the incident.

Police confirmed a 23-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident while enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.30pm on Sunday, 27 February, 2022, police were called to a disturbance at Govan Cross, Glasgow.

"A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged following the incident. He was released on an Undertaking to appear at Court at a later date.

"During the disturbance a police van was damaged after a missile was thrown at the vehicle resulting in the sunroof smashing.

"One male and one female officer sustained minor cuts as a result. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
