Scots bar admits security failed to give further assistance to woman 'spiked' and dumped on street

A Scots bar has admitted security staff failed to give further assistance to a woman who was allegedly spiked and dumped outside the venue. The woman was celebrating her friend's 30th birthday at arcade bar NQ64, in Glasgow, and began feeling unwell after one drink on Saturday, August 27.

She claims security staff dragged her outside alone despite her being unable to stand and drifting in and out of consciousness, and refused to call an ambulance. A chef from nearby Bar Square and an off-duty nurse provided aid to the woman.

A spokesperson for NQ64 confirmed they have since reviewed CCTV footage and have changed their door security as a result of the investigation. They also said additional training will be provided for staff.

A statement given to the Record said: "Having reviewed our CCTV, taken witness statements and further having had 3 rd party mobile phone footage provided it is clear that our door stewards have not acted in a manner that we would expect.

"Our CCTV footage shows the female walking with assistance from our door stewards from the toilet to the front door where she is then being spoken to by her friends. Water was offered by a manager.

"The female’s condition then appears to worsen and it is clear that further assistance should have been offered. As a result of the investigation we have changed our door security and next week our team will undertake further training on dealing with intoxication and identifying signs of spiking.

"NQ64 is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for our team and our guests."

The female victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Record that she woke up in hospital the next morning confused.

She said: "I was completely fine, playing arcade games with my friends, but then I can't remember anything after 11pm. I woke up in hospital the next morning completely confused.

"My friends told me that two bouncers dragged me out under the arms from the bathroom area.

"They [security] made no effort to find out my name and left me there on the pavement outside NQ64 for forty minutes.

"They chose to dump me outside instead of dealing with the situation. The staff are supposed to have a duty of care to their patrons and investigate incidents like this."

The chef from Bar Square who came to the aid of the spiking victim has been sacked from the venue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were made aware of a possible spiking incident at a premises on Bell Street in Glasgow in the evening of Saturday, 27 August, 2022.

"The incident was reported to police on Tuesday, 30 August, and enquiries are ongoing.”
