ScotRail announce travel disruption for Lanarkshire commuters amidst engineering works

Lanarkshire residents are facing rail disruption again due to engineering works.

Trains that usually run between Dalmuir / Milngavie and Whifflet / Motherwell will be amended to run between Dalmuir / Milngavie and Rutherglen only on both August 20 and August 21.

There will also be disruption on August 20 due to a strike by the RMT union that is likely to mean the majority of services are cancelled.

While ScotRail are not associated with the planned industrial action, services are expected to be disrupted on certain dates as Network Rail Scotland staff walk out. Signallers play a crucial role and without them, trains simply can't run.

Services from Balloch to Motherwell will be diverted to run via Cambuslang, Newton and Hamilton on the Sunday while replacement buses will run between Motherwell and Rutherglen via Whifflet and Carmyle.

Earlier this year Rutherglen residents suffered several weeks of disruption after part of the Glasgow Central was closed for works on the line.

An industrial dispute between ScotRail and unions then meant the last trains on Lanarkshire lines ran much earlier than normal.

Further details on planning a journey on the affected days can be found here.
