MULTIPLE CalMac ferry services have been cancelled amid warnings of stormy weather.
A warning for strong winds came into force on Friday from 8am until 3pm for south-west Scotland.
Another warning for rain comes into force from 6am until 6pm for south-west and north-east Scotland, with forecasters predicting travel disruption, power cuts and flooding.
According to the CalMac website, 20 out of 30 ferry routes have been affected by the adverse weather. As of 3.20pm on Friday, nine routes have been cancelled outright by CalMac, with several facing disruptions or possible disruptions.
The cancelled routes are:
• Oban – Colonsay - Port Askaig (Islay) – Kennacraig
• Ardrossan - Brodick
• Freight Ullapool - Stornoway
• Gournock - Kilcreggan
• Claonaig – Lochranza - Tarbert (Loch Fyne)
• Mallaig – Armadale
• Mallaig – Eigg – Muck – Rum - Canna
• Oban – Castlebay
• Wemyss Bay - Rothesay
The ten unaffected routes are:
• Oban – Coll – Tiree
• Berneray - Leverburgh
• Sconser - Raasay
• Tarbert (Loch Fyne) - Portavadie
• Tayinloan - Gigha
• Tobermory - Kilchoan
• Lochaline - Fishnish
• Kennacraig - Port Askaig - Port Ellen
• Gellanach - Kerrera
• Colintraive - Rhubodach
Passengers are being urged to keep up to date on the CalMac website for the latest travel updates, due to high call volumes being faced by the travel operator. Find the latest service updates here.
There is presently no word from CalMac on when standard operations will resume.
Additionally, Police Scotland have said ferry sailings between Cairnryan and Northern Ireland have been cancelled.
A spokesperson said: “Those booked on to any of the affected sailings are advised not to travel to the area due to the impending weather warning and delays are expected.
“They should instead seek alternative travel options elsewhere. Please check with Stenaline and P&O Ferries as appropriate for updates on your sailing.
“Freight drivers who must attend the area are advised to follow instructions from port operators and Police Scotland about accessing the operation overflow site while the cancellations are in place.”
More rain and wind is expected from Sunday, according to the Met Office.
