Scotland v Ukraine play-off postponed as SFA confirm replacement match

Scotland's World Cup play-off semi-final with Ukraine has been postponed until June.

The Scottish FA 'support the decision to uphold the request to postpone the match and reiterate our message of solidarity to our friends and colleagues within the Ukrainian Association of Football' amid Russia's invasion of the country.

A subsequent play-off final for the winners - against either Wales or Austria - has now also been delayed.

15 out of the 23-man Ukrainian pool for November's World Cup qualifiers played in their home leagues. The World Cup finals take place from 21 November to 18 December.

A replacement match has been confirmed and the SFA are in discussions to organise a replacement fixture on 24 March.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell: “In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, it is the correct decision by FIFA to postpone our play-off, as requested by the Ukrainian Association of Football.

“The importance and significance of football is greatly diminished in a time of war and our thoughts are with those Ukrainian civilians affected by the conflict.”
