Scotland's weather is set to take a cold turn with many areas set to freeze in sub zero chills tonight.
The Met Office has said that temperatures have fallen "below average" for this time of year and and some Scots will experience temperatures as low as minus seven degrees on Monday night.
The forecaster has even warned gardeners of a "potentially damaging" bout of frost that is to spread across the UK on Monday night, followed by "wintry showers".
Temperatures fell earlier today, as the country endured blustery winds thanks a thanks to a blast of Arctic air currently circulating over the country,
Reporting on the week's forecast, meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “This week will see temperatures below average for the time of year for many. Blustery winds will become confined to the far northeast overnight, with winds falling light elsewhere.
"This will allow widespread frost by night, though in sunshine by day, it should feel pleasant enough. Wintry showers will continue across the northeast, becoming confined to Orkney and Shetland by tomorrow afternoon."
While conditions are set to become milder through the week across England, the same can't be said for Scotland, as the northeast is to experience more showers while cold weather remains.
Those with plans over the bank holiday weekend will be disappointed to hear that these grim conditions are here to stay until the end of the week.
Looking further ahead, Deputy Chief Meteorologist Nick Silkstone said: “It will potentially take until the end of the week for the milder air to push as far north as northern Scotland.”
Looking to next week, the long range forecast is anticipating milder, more settled conditions with the occasional afternoon shower.
