Scotland starting team vs Spain as Ryan Porteous and Aaron Hickey keep places in star-studded team

Scotland will take on European giants Spain in what is sure to be a classic at Hampden Park.

The Tartan Army roared on on Saturday as a late flurry from Manchester United's Scott McTominay meant a comfortable win against Cyprus. Fan favourite John McGinn had netted in the first half with 3-0 the final scoreline to hand Steve Clarke's men a first win in the EURO 2024 qualifying campaign. Luis de la Fuente's Spanish outfit matched that result with three against Norway.

It will be the 14th time the two sides have met with the Scots last victory coming nearly 40 years ago. But despite that boss Clarke isn't ruling out another upset in Mount Florida.

He said before the game: "We want to be competitive against the top teams. We're trying to push the players to get better. The more you play against top opposition, the better you should get.

"We've shown in the past that we're capable of getting results against good teams. That's what we have to do again tomorrow night. I go into every game thinking I'm going to win, I've done that since I was 17. Every single game.

"We know we have to be disciplined, we know we have to be organised, we know we have to play very very well, and Spain have to slightly underperform a little bit, but if that happens we know we can get a positive result."

Scotland starting XI: Gunn; Hanley, Tierney, Porteous; Hickey, McGregor, McTominay Robertson; McGinn, Christie, Dykes

Subs: Kelly, Clark, Patterson, Shankland, Hyam, Gilmour, Cooper, Armstrong, Ferguson, Brown, Jack, McLean
