Scotland could receive a major boost for Sebastien Pocognoli's opening game in Slovenia with Manchester United's £73 million striker Benjamin Sesko set to miss out through injury.
Slovenia manager Bostjan Cesar included Sesko in his squad last week for their Nations League opener against the Scots in Ljubljana on Saturday.
It would have been the first time in over a year Sesko would have been available to play for his country after a series of injuries.
But despite scoring in two consecutive games for United against Everton and Sabah in the Champions League, he was left out of their squad for their weekend trip to Fulham.
And reports in his homeland have suggested he could be out for a couple of weeks with a new injury setback, which would see him miss the game against Scotland.
Old Trafford boss Michael Carrick explained: "He felt pain after the match against Brighton in midweek and is currently under observation.
"He was definitely not ready for the match at Fulham.
"We don't know how bad it is yet. We have to wait and see what happens."
