Scotland's 'loneliest dog' needs home after spending 400 days 'overlooked' in shelter

Scotland's loneliest dog has been 'overlooked' for over a year while living in a shelter.

Super loving and friendly three-year-old crossbreed, Buddy, has been living at the SSPCA base in Caithness and Sutherland for 400 days while waiting for his forever home.

Buddy is described as a 'beautiful boy' who is 'a joy to be around and makes everyone smile'.

He has watched so many of his furry friends come and go throughout his 12 month stay with the SSPCA but he is patiently waiting for his forever home.

Buddy has so much love to give and could be an amazing addition to a family.

He is super affectionate and loves attention. The SSPCA said: "He emerges from under his blanket every morning and immediately gives you his version of a cuddle by very gently wrapping his front legs around you and nuzzling his face into you.

"He will stay like this until you ask him to get down because he adores attention and loves when people visit him in his kennel."

A smart and attentive dog, Buddy knows commands such as sit and paw, while responding well to other training.

The kennels say he is a 'very good boy' who is clean and never chews or shreds any of his blankets so his new owners won't need to worry about him leaving a mess.

He is a strong boy, especially when out walking, so his new owner may want to focus on helping him improve when walking on a lead.

Buddy's strength also helps him jump very high with the SSPCA recommending his new owners have an enclosed garden with high fences to help keep him safe.

After being in the kennels for such a long time Buddy might take some time to get used to the home environment again.

"Buddy would love a home with someone who is around a lot of the time to keep him company", the SSPCA said.

Buddy would prefer to live with adults only and isn't best suited to homes with other dogs or any cats.

He is a pretty healthy pup but does have some trouble with his ears and this will need to be taken care of by his new owner.

Speaking about Buddy, the SSPCA said: "Buddy has had trouble with his ears in the past and will require a new owner who is happy to take this on and continue to clean them several times a week.

"He is very used to getting his ears cleaned now and is happy to sit for this to be done."
