Scotland's biggest pumpkin patch is the size of four football pitches and has over 35,000 pumpkins

Scotland's largest pumpkin patch covers an area big enough to fit four football pitches and has over 35,000 pumpkins on offer. Balgone Estate, near North Berwick, East Lothian, has 21 different varieties of the popular autumn fruit, making it the ideal destination for families ahead of Halloween.

Schoolfriends Alex Humphreys, 23, and David Grant-Suttie, 24, came up with the idea to create the patch at David's family farm three years ago and it's now grown into a must-visit destination for families every autumn.

Visitors now come from as far away as Manchester and Newcastle, with one particularly busy day seeing 2,500 people arrive to pick the perfect pumpkin. Alex added that across the month of October, 25,000 people are anticipated to attend the patch. He said: "We are keen on being the largest supplier of pumpkins in Scotland. This is the third year running.

"Our main goal is to get people out in the countryside. We are quite proud of how much it has grown."

The patch is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October and is nearly sold out. Access is sold per car, with around 700 cars turning up per day.

Alex added: "We encourage people to cook the squashes. There's quite a lot on offer."
