The top seaside fish and chip destinations across the UK have been revealed and one Scottish village has taken the number one spot.
Ahead of National Fish and Chip Day on June 2, experts at travel booking website Omio investigated the towns and villages across the nation with the most popular fish and chip dishes. Using TripAdvisor data, the research ranked destinations based on the number of fish and chip shops, the average rating, and the average number of reviews.
Plockton in the Wester Ross area of the Scottish Highlands topped the list, beating out the famous English town of St Ives for the title. Situated on a sheltered bay with crystal-clear water, Plockton is known as the 'Jewel of the Highlands' and is famous for its stunning views out across Loch Carron.
The research also uncovered which fish and chip spots within Plockton were the most popular, with The Shores taking the number one spot. Following behind are the Plockton Inn, The Harbour Fish Bar, and the Plockton Hotel Restaurant.
A second Scottish village also appears in the top five, with Lochinver in Sutherland coming in at number three. Renowned for its dramatic mountain landscapes, tranquil sandy beaches, and diverse wildlife, the village's top fish and chip spots are Peet’s and An Cala Cafe and Bunkhouse according to the research.
The third and final Scottish destination to appear on the list is the fishing village of Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife, which places at number eight. Known primarily for its scenic harbour, the experts at Omio found that its most popular fish and chip eateries are The Dory Bistro and Gallery, West End Bar, and The Larachmhor Tavern.
