Five Scottish hospitals featured on a list of the best in the world.
Published by Newsweek magazine, the American publication releases an annual ranking of 2,200 hospitals in 27 countries.
Scotland's top three hospitals were named as Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Nine UK hospitals made the top 250 list worldwide, including St Thomas' Hospital (#41) in London, University College Hospital (#54) in London, and Addenbrooke's in Cambridge (#79).
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, was the number one pick for the best hospital in the world.
Hospitals were the frontlines of the Covid pandemic that has been raging for two years now.
"According to the experts who helped guide the results of our annual ranking of the World's Best Hospitals, that has meant learning to adapt to new and existing challenges quickly and improvising on the fly," Newsweek wrote.
The rankings are based on three points of data: recommendations from over 80,000 medical experts in 27 countries, patient experience surveys and medical key performance indicators.
Three countries were added to the list this year - Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Glasgow Royal Hospital retained its title for the top-rated Scottish hospital, but fell from number 16 in 2021 to 30.
The runner up, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, moved up ranks from 42 to 33.
Queen Elizabeth University Hospital rose from 50 to 45.
Both St John's Hospital and Golden Jubilee National Hospital did not appear in the 2021 list.
