Scotland prepares for Autumn International: Key injuries and new faces in the squad

Johnny Matthews has received a call-up to the Scottish Rugby ranks ahead of their upcoming autumn international clash with Portugal at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

The hooker, 31, is set to join loosehead prop Alec Hepburn as Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend makes adjustments to his line-up following a tough defeat to South Africa last weekend.

Matthews’ inclusion for Sunday's fixture comes after he was notably left out of the initial squad despite his impressive try-scoring performances for the Glasgow Warriors in recent months.

Injuries have sidelined Max Williamson and Jack Dempsey, who are out with hand and shoulder injuries, respectively, sustained during the match against the Springboks.

Additionally, Gregor Brown is unavailable due to a rib injury.

This match against Portugal marks the third of four home matches for Townsend's team this month, with the final game scheduled against Australia on November 24.

In other news, Scotland lock Scott Cummings is set to attend an independent disciplinary hearing following his red card for a ruck infringement in the match against South Africa.

Cummings will find out the outcome via video link during the hearing, which is expected to take place on Tuesday (November 12) evening.
