Scott McTominay insists he will be back for Scotland soon, but is unsure whether his heart surgery will cause him to miss the entire Nations League campaign.
The Napoli ace announced this week that he is to have a minor heart procedure after the discovery of a mild benign arrhythmia.
It will rule him out for new Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli's first four games in the Nations League against Slovenia home and away, North Macedonia and Switzerland.
Scotland then play their final two games in the group at home to North Macedonia and away in Switzerland in November.
Reports in Italy have stated that Napoli expect the former Manchester United star to return to action for their home match on October 10 against Frosinone.
McTominay attended the Italian Footballers' Association Gala at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan this week, but refused to put a date on his return.
He said: "How am I now? I'm fine. The heart issue isn't a problem.
"I'll get everything sorted out and be back soon.
"Will I be back after the international break? I don't know, we'll see."
