Scotland issued 'danger to life' rain warning as bomb cyclone brings downpours

Scotland's unsettled weather could become dangerous tomorrow as part of the country has been issued a 'danger to life' rain warning.

A Met Office amber warning in place on Friday morning concerns a downpour over southwest Scotland that could reach almost three inches in elevated regions.

Following recent wet weather, flooding is likely to occur on roads which may cause disruption and even cut access to some communities. Scots should be cautious of deep flood water which may lead to accidents.

The alert comes following a separate snow warning issued for most of the country as widespread flurries are predicted as a result of a powerful jet stream caused by a bomb cyclone in the US.

Here's what you should know about Scotland's amber rain warning, including regions affected and how long it will last.

The Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for rain which will hit southwest Scotland on Friday morning. Forecasters predict heavy rains will begin at 3am and last until midday.

"Rain will become heavy and persistent overnight into Friday morning," the Met Office said.

"Accumulations of 40-50mm are expected quite widely with 60-70mm possible in a few upland locations. Following recent wet weather, river and surface water flooding is likely. The rain will clear to the east by the end of the morning."
