Scotland fans’ dogs left out of Adidas World Cup canine jersey line

Scotland fans have been left disappointed as their canine friends were not included in a clothing brand’s line of World Cup dog jerseys.

Adidas released a range of football strips for dogs on Monday as part of its “home jerseys pet collection”.

Countries featured in the sportswear giant’s new canine line include Columbia, Japan and Argentina.

Paul Goodwin, co-founder of the Scottish Football Supporters Association (SFSA), told BBC Radio Scotland’s breakfast show on Wednesday that despite numerous breeds of dog originating north of the border Adidas had not included Scotland.

Mr Goodwin said Scotland fans were not impressed after the SFSA broke the news on social media.

He told the BBC presenters: “We’ve had a couple of people since we posted originally, which started as a bit of fun in a post.

“We’ve had a few people – we’ve had Coco from Auchterarder, whose owner has come back and said, ‘we want one as well’.

“They sent us a lovely picture of an adapted shirt, but it’s not the same thing.

“So, yeah, it’s a bit of fun.

“If I was a marketing person at Adidas, I would be lapping up all the free publicity and maybe thinking about a late submission to the Scottish Football Association.”

Mr Goodwin later told the Press Association: “When we first posted, it started off as a laugh, but with the media attention, I’d say it’s grown arms and legs, but in this case, it’s grown paws and tails.

“My dog is the team mascot for Kippen FC in Stirlingshire and he goes to every game.

“He has a shirt from them, and we’re hoping Adidas will at least make him a one-off Scotland shirt for the cup.”

Scotland was reportedly left out of the pet jersey line-up due to an anticipated lack of demand.

In June, the Scotland men’s team will be returning to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

In the group stage, Steve Clarke’s team will face Haiti, Morocco and Brazil.

Adidas was approached for comment.
