A man accused of looking after kids in a filthy home and using a fake gun to threaten police has died before facing trial.
Glyn Miles Robertson-Clements was facing a child neglect charge and was accused of using an imitation firearm when dealing with officers.
He was said to have looked after them in a home covered in urine and faeces and locked a boy in a room, forcing him to do the toilet in a bucket.
Prosecutors claimed he had the bogus weapon "with intent to cause" Police Scotland Constables Helder Marcos and Kirsty Murray "to believe that unlawful violence would be used against them".
He was also said to have neglected children aged 10, 13 and 15 while looking after them at his home in Paisley, Renfrewshire.
He denied failing to provide them with "adequate sleeping facilities", leaving faeces and urine on the walls and furniture of their home, and leaving "medication on open display whereby said children had unrestricted access to it".
He also denied he had forced the older child to care for two autistic children and do household chores, including cooking and cleaning.
The 59-year-old was due to go on trial over the claims at Paisley Sheriff Court on December 7. But the trial did not begin as he was found dead at his home in the town on November 23.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Scotland's prosecuting authority, confirmed the criminal proceedings against him are now at an end due to his death.
A spokesperson added: "The Procurator Fiscal received a report in connection with the death of a 59-year-old man in Paisley on 23 November 2022.
"The investigation into the death, under the direction of Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFIU), was completed and after careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, the Procurator Fiscal concluded that no further action was required."
