Scorned ex-wife threatens to 'stick' knife in former partner's lover

A scorned ex-wife told her former partner's lover 'I want to kill you' while clutching a knife, a court heard.

Jean Milburn appeared in court via a video link from prison to be sentenced. She was previously charged with threats to kill and possession of a blade.

Teesside Crown Court heard how in October 2021 the victim was in a relationship with Milburn's now former husband and was told that the pair were separated, Teesside Live reports.

On the morning of October 20, 2021, she was staying at the man's home when she heard someone enter the property and head up the stairs.

She then heard Milburn, of Marske, say: "I've travelled all night on the train to get here for you" - but the victim did not know who she was.

Prosecuting Joseph Hedworth said: "When asked who she was the defendant said 'I'm his wife and this is my house and you're in my bed'. The complainant said she was told they were separated but the defendant told her he lied and that they were still together."

The court heard the victim tried to ring her lover but was unable to get through so went downstairs and could hear the defendant on the phone to him.

Mr Hedworth said: "The defendant approached the complainant and started to push and pull her. She called her a s*** and told her it was all her fault."

Milburn then ran to her bag pulling out a knife waving it at the victim. The court heard that she told the victim: "I want to kill you, I could just f***ing stick this in you."

Mr Hedworth said the pair scuffled before Milburn pulled the victim's hair putting the knife up against her back - at no stage did the knife penetrate the skin. The victim managed to push the defendant off her and the knife fell out of her hand.

The court heard Milburn then started to attack the victim pushing her and shouting "I want you out". As the victim tried to leave the defendant grabbed her arm and tried to pull her top down before throwing her out.

Milburn shouted "this is just the f****** start" before pushing her and trying to rip her dressing gown off.

In mitigation, Michele Turner said Milburn entered guilty pleas and was very remorseful.

She said: "She has been in custody for five-and-a-half months and has not wasted that time. She's engaged with the services within the custodial setting and now is the right time for her to continue that work but within the community.

"She has managed to take a closer look at the circumstances and realises this woman was not responsible for the breakdown of her marriage."

Milburn, 52, was handed an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
