A pinch of salt can make almost any meal taste better. But according to health experts, adding too much of it could come at a cost. For centuries, salt has been used to flavour and preserve food. Today, however, excessive salt consumption is linked to a range of health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease and even faster cognitive decline. To reduce these risks, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that adults consume no more than five grams of salt per day.
