Schoolgirl, 16, kicked in head during savage playground attack caught on video

Police are investigating after a schoolgirl, 16, was beaten up and left with a concussion in a brutal playground attack.

Footage of the assault at Whyalla Secondary College, in the town of Whyalla, 380km north west of Adelaide, has been handed over to police.

The video shows the 16-year-old with three other schoolgirls during a break between lessons when she was suddenly attacked by another girl last Monday.

The victim was pulled backwards by her hair and then dragged before being punched and kicked savagely to the head repeatedly.

With the girl on the floor, her attacker is also heard shouting abuse at her.

She screamed: “Run your f****ing mouth about my brother-in-law c***.

“Get the f*** up.”

The attacked girl was then taken to Whyalla Hospital having suffered facial injuries and concussion but she was able to go home on Tuesday night, reported 7NEWS.

Her mother has said that while the 16-year-old has been shaken by the incident she is physically okay and will continue her recovery at home.

A Department of Education spokesperson said that “appropriate disciplinary measures” will be taken over the incident.

The video has been circulated widely on social media since it happened and it was handed into police on Tuesday.

The school is reported to have sent a letter to parents saying: 'Violence and aggression are not tolerated in our school, and we will be taking appropriate disciplinary action.

"Wellbeing support will also be available, as required. The matter has been referred to [police] for further action.

"We would ask that any mobile phone footage of the incident be deleted immediately and not forwarded on or posted online."

Anti-violence campaigner Brigid Koenig, from the Sammy D foundation, claimed the attack was one of the most ferocious she has seen at a school.

“The school has a part to play but so do the parents, so do the other members of the community and including police,” she told 7NEWS.

It is unclear whether police have interviewed the alleged attacker, but they said they were investigating the incident.
