Children on their way home from school walked past the open door of a house where a woman was stabbed.
A street of terraced houses in north Liverpool was the scene of a major police incident this afternoon following a serious assault. Merseyside Police was called to Bedford Road, Walton, at around 12.20pm today, Monday, January 16 following reports that a woman had been stabbed inside a house.
The suspect, a 35-year-old local man, fled the scene and was later arrested on the nearby Breeze Hill flyover. An image shared with the ECHO showed a large police presence on the flyover after officers closed the surrounding roads.

An eyewitness told the ECHO a police officer talked the suspect down "after 40 minutes". They said: "The police had tasers but couldn’t [use them] because he was sitting right on the edge of the flyover. The lad gave himself up and moved off the edge and walked towards police."
The eyewitness claimed the suspect had two dogs on a lead and was carrying a "large machete". A number of police vehicles, including a police dog van, were seen on the flyover following the incident.
The man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article. The woman remains in hospital where her injuries are being assessed.
This afternoon a considerable police presence remained on Bedford Road. Three police vehicles and a number of officers guarded the cordon which covered several terraced houses. The entrance to nearby Liston Street was also cordoned off.
Parents with their young children walked past the cordon after picking them up from nearby schools. Older children trying to walk up Bedford Road were turned away by police. The section of road inside the cordon remained closed for pedestrians and vehicles, while residents living next door to the house where the stabbing happened had to sign in and out with a police officer.
The house's front door remained open and police tape was pulled across the entrance gate. The violent attack stunned neighbours who told the ECHO the street is full of people "who keep themselves to themselves".
A woman, who did not want to be named, spoke to the ECHO from her front door. She said: "I didn't know about it until I got a knock on my door. My family told me when they came in. I only know my neighbours here - I don't know anyone down that end of the road.
"Someone said a woman had been stabbed in the neck. It's a good area here. People keep themselves to themselves - that's what I do myself. You don't hear anything and no one bothers you."
Another eyewitness also told the ECHO of the considerable emergency services presence on the road following the incident. They described "around 10 police cars and two ambulances" on the road in the minutes following the suspected assault.
Merseyside Police detectives were seen on Bedford Road shortly before 3pm. A spokesperson for the force said officers were in the early stages of investigating the incident and house-to-house enquiries were ongoing.
Eyewitnesses who could help police with their investigation are asked to contact Merseyside Police's social media desks on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' quoting 23000046316.
