School Holiday Tomorrow, July 28: Will schools remain closed on Tuesday as IMD predicts heavy rainfall in several states?

With the monsoon remaining active across large parts of the country, students and parents are waiting to know whether schools will remain closed on Tuesday, July 28. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several states as a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal moves inland. While no nationwide school holiday has been announced, district administrations in weather-affected areas are expected to take local decisions depending on rainfall, flooding and public safety.

If conditions deteriorate, authorities may declare a holiday for schools or shift classes online in the worst-hit districts.

IMD weather update

According to the IMD, the deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move inland after crossing the West Bengal and north Odisha coasts, bringing widespread rainfall across eastern and central India.

The weather system is expected to trigger heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over:

  • Odisha
  • West Bengal
  • Jharkhand
  • Chhattisgarh
  • East Madhya Pradesh

The monsoon is also likely to remain active over parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala and Assam.
