Students and parents across India are checking whether schools will be open on Thursday, October 1, 2026, ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. There is no confirmed nationwide school holiday for October 1. However, the schedule can vary from one state to another and may also differ between individual institutions because of regional holidays, quarterly or autumn breaks, weather conditions and school-specific academic calendars.
One notable exception is Tamil Nadu, where schools are already observing their quarterly vacation and are scheduled to reopen on October 5.
