School hits back at 'misleading' rumour after parents told prom scrapped

A school has been forced to give an update after a rumour began circulating that prom had been cancelled.

Cowley International College in St Helens took to social media to dispel rumors they had scrapped the year 11 prom after not booking a large enough venue.

The school said that since the rumour started to spread, they had been inundated with parents contacting the reception and called the post "inaccurate and misleading".

The post in question was put on local St Helens Facebook group yesterday evening and has since racked up 274 comments and 212 likes. The school, which caters to pupils from 11 to 18 said there have been no changes to the prom and they can "guarantee that it will be a wonderful evening."

A spokesperson from Cowley International College said: "A number of parents have been in touch with us about the Y11 Prom next Wednesday. Unfortunately, the enquiries have been in response to an inaccurate and misleading post on a social media group.

"So, please do not worry. There has been no changes to the Prom arrangements, and we guarantee that it will be a wonderful evening where the students can celebrate together. All students who have met the criteria and paid by the deadline will be attending.

"We encourage all parents and students to refer to the authorised communication from the college. We will always follow our standard communication channels through email, our official website, and social media."
