School children have flag flown at Taylor Wimpey site

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey asked school children in the West of Scotland to design a flag to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as they searched for a winner to have a flag flown over one of their sites.

Two P5 children from the Renfrewshire area, Cameron from Dargavel Primary and Lilly from Bishopton Primary, were the winners of the competitions, which saw their amazing designs fly high at the entrance to the Dargavel development.

Audrey Ross, from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: "It has been our pleasure to work with both Bishopton and Dargavel primary schools on this project to strengthen and extend our links once again with the local community of Dargavel Village, Bishopton.”

Louise Chisholm, depute headteacher at Dargavel Primary, said the celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was a unique moment for the children to experience and celebrate and said the youngsters enjoyed the occasion.

She said: “The children enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design, and I understand the judges found it hard to choose a winner due to the quality of all the designs entered.”

The winners of the competition also were awarded a £50 book voucher, a copy of their winning design and to top it all off a trip to the Taylor Wimpey development village to see their flag being flown high in the sky.

That wasn’t the only success in the area as a banner with more fabulous designs was also created by the company for them to use.

Taylor Wimpey were so impressed with the level of talent shown by the pupils that the runners up chosen to be on the banner were given a £15 book voucher too.

Depute head at Bishopton, Catherine Davidson, said working with Taylor Wimpey was an usual challenge but the school children loved it.

“Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to design a flag to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been an unusual challenge.

"Lily’s flag and the children’s welcome banner create a lovely connection between our school, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Dargavel Village.”
