Scenes like an 'action movie' as forensics investigate Notts crash that left man critically injured

Villagers have spoken in shock and wished well a man who was critically injured in a crash. Police were called out to Main Road in Watnall after a car hit a man on Friday evening (April 1).

The incident was reported to Nottinghamshire Police just after 10pm. Detectives said a 35-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services attended and road closures remained in place in Main Road, between Holly Road and Stannier Way, on Saturday morning (April 1). Henry Frances, 60, who had to divert from his usual route in Main Road, was among a number of people who wished the man a speedy recovery.

He said: "It is shocking really. This is a quiet area. I hope the man injured is alright. I wish him all the best. I hope the families of all the people involved are OK."

Alex Golden, who comes to the area regularly to visit a friend, said he saw forensics on Saturday morning. He added: “It is such a quiet area - it is out of ordinary to see something like this. I was shocked when I saw the people wearing big white costumes. It is something that you see in action movies, not real life.”

The 22-year-old from Beeston said: “I am not from around here so I probably do not know who the injured person is. But obviously I wish them all the best. No one wants to see people suffering.”

Ali Gashr, who works at a car wash next to the police cordon in Main road, said: “I was shocked when I saw it this morning. I have never seen anything like this in my life.” The 47-year-old sent his best wishes, saying: “I’m wishing the person injured a speedy recovery.”

A 21-year-old man also sustained an injury to his arm and has been taken to hospital. But police said this man's injuries weren't thought to be life-altering.

Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Diversions have been clearly signposted, although we’d urge drivers to avoid the area for the time being. An investigation is currently ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

"If you witnessed the incident, or have any information that could assist us with our enquiries, we’d ask that you contact police. We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have recorded dash-cam footage relating to the incident.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 790 of April 1 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
