A scary clown doll which left cinema-goers terrified has sold in an auction of hundreds of entertainment props. The doll, from 80s horror movie Poltergeist, sold for £519k.
The terrifying mannequin featured in the supernatural film directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written by Steven Spielberg. It topped the sales as film and TV memorabilia auction house Propstore announced results from day one (28 June) of their US Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.
More than 500 rare and iconic pieces were up for grabs fetching more than $9.7 million (£7.7m). Brandon Alinger, Propstore COO commented: "The strength of sales in the auction from titles such as Back to Future, Batman, The Big Lebowski, Blade Runner, Jumanji, and Star Wars show the strength of entertainment collectibles as a hobby.
"It was also a very big day for horror, with our top two sales going to iconic horror props from Poltergeist and The Thing. We now move into days two and three of the auction, with hundreds of fantastic lots still to be sold to new owners around the world.”
