Scarlett Johansson Settles Lawsuit With Disney Over Black Widow Release

Scarlett Johansson looks happy.

Scarlett Johansson recently reached a settlement with Disney following a legal dispute over the streaming release of her film, Black Widow. The actress expressed her disappointment with Disney's handling of the situation, citing it as unprofessional and a breach of contract.

In July 2021, Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney, alleging that the simultaneous release of Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+ during the Covid-19 pandemic violated her contract. Her attorney argued that Disney's actions prevented her from fully benefiting from the movie's box office performance.

Disney responded by stating that they had complied with Johansson's contract and emphasized the positive impact of releasing Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access. The lawsuit was eventually settled in September 2021, with both parties expressing satisfaction with the resolution.

Following the settlement, Johansson expressed her pride in the work done with Disney over the years and her excitement for future collaborations. Disney Studios chairman also expressed his pleasure at reaching a mutual agreement with the actress.

Johansson, who described the legal battle as a surreal moment, revealed that the distraction of impending motherhood helped her cope during that challenging time. She welcomed her son Cosmo and shared her joy in the midst of the legal dispute.

The settlement marks the end of a contentious chapter between Scarlett Johansson and Disney, paving the way for future collaborations between the actress and the entertainment giant.
