Scandi-chic comes to Scunthorpe as JYSK prepares to open at Lakeside

Scandinavian chic is heading to Scunthorpe, with leading Danish homeware retailer JYSK set to open its first store in the Humber region.

The global operator is heading to Lakeside Retail Park, creating 10 jobs. It will be the company’s 30th UK store, with 3,100 now spread across 51 countries.

JYSK, pronounced Yoosk, will open at 10am on February 17, with David Dodsworth appointed to manage the 950 sq m store. The company already has stores in Gainsborough, Lincoln, Doncaster and York.

Ciaron Hearns, JYSK sales and marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “JYSK Scunthorpe joins 29 stores in the UK and is our second store opening this year. The new store and brilliant team are ready to welcome old and new JYSK customers to explore our collection of Scandi homeware and garden furniture.

“They will be able to enjoy our brilliant same-day click and collect service, AnyVan local next day delivery service, and exclusive in-store lines.”

The 43-year-old business is family owned, and was launched by tradesman Lars Larsen. It now turns over £3.6 billion. It has set a goal of operating 5,000 stores worldwide, and the past year has seen it record record results in the UK, with sales up 11 per cent despite challenging trading conditions.

Mr Hearns said it is well known for high quality, on trend products for the home, from the bedroom to the garden. It is described having earned a worldwide reputation of expertise and knowledge in sleeping culture, specialising in “expertly created sleeping products, including top rated mattresses, duvets, pillows, bedframes, and bases”.

Prices are set to be reduced by 70 per cent for the first week on hundreds of lines.

JYSK joins The Food Warehouse, B&M, Argos and Home Bargains at the prominent site off Ashby Ville Roundabout, by Morrisons at the foot of Mortal Ash Hill.
