A new kind of scam is spreading in mall, metros and small cities, with a financial advisor claiming that fraudsters are now exploiting people's kindness to help strangers rather than directly asking them for money or passwords. The post describes a so-called "help-seeking scam" in which a stranger allegedly approaches people in malls, metro stations, markets or other public places and asks for help operating a mobile phone.
The person may claim they do not know how to use the phone, need to check a pension or subsidy, or accidentally opened the wrong page. The victim is then encouraged to take the phone and help. According to the viral warning, this is where the alleged scam begins.
