The Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Madras High Court order that had directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that no cow or calf was slaughtered anywhere in the state.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government challenging the high court's May 27 ruling. The apex court also issued notice to the respondents and agreed to examine the matter.
