Say Goodbye Forever With the Honda Super Cub 50 Final Edition

I have a confession to make, and it's one that may surprise you if you've been reading RideApart for a long time. Are you ready? As of the time of writing, I have yet to ever own a Honda Super Cub. (I know!)

To be totally fair, it's not like I haven't considered it. The new ones are lovely, of course, but I've also thought that getting something like an older Super Cub or a Dream or Benly would be great, just because they'd be relatively simple project bikes to work on.

But instead, I found myself dog-that-caught-the-car-ing with my 1985 VF500F. Oops. (I swear my carbs are going back together soon....)

And as I broke the news to you earlier this year, the Super Cub 50 is about to be discontinued forever in Japan. While that doesn't mean all Super Cubs are going away, the 50 is special because it's the longest-running version, and that displacement has been around since the beginning.

So Honda did what Honda does, and is releasing a Super Cub 50 Final Edition in Japan. The colorway reflects the original, from the very first time that the Super Cub 50 was introduced to the world back in 1966.

Logos and emblems are throwbacks to the OG Super Cub as well. And the body color? Bonnie Blue, with cream and black accents. Even the rear rack is finished in Bonnie Blue rather than a more modern chrome or (heaven forbid) matte black. The muffler cover gets a special finish to set it apart from the regular Super Cub C50 that's currently available, and the key gets a special cover emblem to commemorate the occasion, as well.

All good things must come to an end, and so the Honda Super Cub 50 Final Edition will only be available from Honda Japan dealerships for a limited time. If you're in Japan, you can order one beginning on Friday, November 8, 2024 all the way through Sunday, November 24, 2024. The MSRP for the Honda Super Cub 50 Final Edition is ¥297,000, which works out to about US $1,943 at the time of writing. Please note that this price includes Japan's consumption tax.

Even though it's not the final Super Cub ever, it's still at least a little bittersweet to say goodbye to such a long-running model. That's especially true if you appreciate anything that Honda has given the world in the decades since its introduction, because it's hard to argue that Honda would be where it is today without this bike.

If you've ever owned a Super Cub, what are your fondest memories and best stories with your bike? Let us know in the comments.
