It's commonly known that the cost of a wedding is the equivalent to a small fortune. Amid the current cost of living crisis, a bride and groom alike may be opting for money-saving methods to fund their big day, whilst on a budget.
One savvy bride did just this as she crafted her own wedding bouquet for just $32, the equivalent of approximately £28, rather than pay the costs that florists are quoting as "typically in the hundreds". Since posting the video to popular video-streaming service TikTok, the viral video has exceeded a jaw-dropping 3.9 million views to date.
A TikToker named @techthots captioned the popular video: "Make your own wedding bouquet girl, don’t let the American wedding industry tell you that you can’t. . . . . .
The savvy bride joked that "growing up poor" taught her creativity, which she put to use after being gobsmacked with a conversation over the phone.
Whilst on call, she asked a florist: "Hi, can you please give me a quote for a wedding bouquet?"
They responded: "I don't have a general quote for you, but you can write an email to our events team.
"Ok, just like a rough estimate for 24 roses? Are we talking $50? More than $50?" The TikToker questioned.
"I think well over that," the florist stated.
The woman's jaw dropped after the ordeal, and she quickly put her thinking cap on to craft a similar bouquet for less.
She explained: "Girl, you know that I got all of this from my grocery store for about $32. There were three for 12 and I have a total of eight bouquets."
The woman explained how she made a quick visit to the Dollar Tree, which is the American equivalent of Poundland, where she purchased floral tape and some ribbon.
She continued: "I started with seven roses - keep it very symmetrical and tape it right away - just keep adding flowers to it.
"Midway through, start to add some baby's breath and other details.
"Girl, I'm out here changing lives. Obviously, you can elevate this with more ribbon. Also, you don't need this many flowers, my hand is about to break."
Thankful viewers rushed to the comment section to gush over the inexpensive alternative to a wedding bouquet.
"I was told not to say wedding when asking or about to place an order they tend to over price I did my own flower decorations too," one person wrote.
A second added: "Pro tip: make artificial bouquets. Dollar Tree and Walmart and some thrift stores have great artificial flowers. You can make them months in advance!"
A third commented: "She’s showing women who can’t pay a florist the option to DIY. The wedding industry is notoriously overpriced and inaccessible to many. It’s awesome."
A professional claimed: "As a florist, our smallest handheld prom bouquets start at $60. Wedding bouquets are typically in the hundreds."
