Eye-watering energy bill forecasts have forced many households to reassess their gas and electricity usage. However, hundreds of pounds could be saved each year by avoiding using a household appliance, according to one expert.
While lifestyle changes have been made and extra sweaters and blankets pulled out of cupboards, heating bills and the general cost of living has continued to rise. However, there is one appliance that could be guzzling up your cash without you realising.
One particular appliance should be avoided, according to Sam Whillance, a spokesperson at Deal Town, who adds that in addition to this, there is an electrical appliance upgrade can help save thousands of pounds. Although the weather is starting perk up, getting your washing dry outside is still a challenge.

With this in mind, the energy-ace has recommended avoiding using a tumble dryer as an alternative, telling Daily Record that the appliance could set householders back hundreds each year. "Tumble dryers are a significant energy drainer, and if you are using your tumble dryer multiple timers per week, this will be ramping up your monthly energy bill," Sam said.
"If you are running a standard condenser, or a vented tumble dryer twice per week, this can cost upwards of £200 per year to run." According to recent researched from Uswitch, the United Kingdom uses £18,288,745 worth of electricity every week on tumble dryers.
Alternatives to the tumble dryer on bad weather days include air-drying clothes with the aid of a dehumidifier. The Uswitch data has found that this will only put households back £19.24 on average this year.
Sam also recommended investing in smart plug strips, pointing out that it could make you significant savings in the long-run. "Although they may seem like an unnecessary additional cost at the time, smart plugs and smart plug strips are a worthwhile investment for saving money on electricity bills in the long run," said the expert.
He added: "Smart plugs and plug strips will automatically switch off the power to products that go into standby mode, such as your television. Smart plugs also benefit from the option to set timers for devices to be switched off, as well as being able to switch them off the power from mobile apps."
