Savage X Fenty's 'Genius' Underwear Ad Sparks Backlash Over Children, But Fans Ask: 'Have They Never Seen Underwear Before?'

A marketing popup was labeled 'genius' for its unique implementation but some critics are asking isn't it too inappropriate for kids (Credit: Savage X Fenty by Rihanna/Via X)

Savage X Fenty has found itself at the centre of an online debate after one of its underwear adverts prompted criticism over children being exposed to the campaign. While some viewers described the marketing campaign as genius, others questioned whether the imagery was appropriate for younger audiences. Some also dismissed the backlash as overblown, arguing that an underwear brand showing underwear should hardly come as a surprise.

The disagreement has reignited a familiar debate surrounding advertising, social media and the line between content intended for adults and material that can nevertheless be encountered by children online.
