Saudi Arabia said on Monday it intercepted drones launched by Iran-backed militias in Iraq, marking a fresh security challenge even as the United States and Iran appeared to pause weeks of military escalation that had pushed the Middle East closer to a wider conflict.
In a statement posted on social media, the Saudi Defence Ministry said the drones were aimed at petroleum facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Province and the capital, Riyadh.
