Saudi Crown Prince Announces Largest Ever Expansion of Quba Mosque

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, announced on Thursday a project to expand Quba Mosque in Madinah, the largest in its history.

Named after the Saudi monarch, King Salman, the project aims to increase the mosque’s capacity to 66,000 worshipers, and raise the total area of ​​the mosque to 50,000 square meters, 10 times its current area.

The Saudi Crown Prince said the project aligns with the goals and objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, within a dedicated program to better serve the pilgrims and enhance the quality of life.

He commended the great care accorded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, to the Quba Mosque - the first mosque built in Islam.

He noted that the project aims to accommodate the largest number of worshipers in times of peak seasons, highlight the religious importance and the historical characteristics of the Quba Center and preserve its urban and architectural style while protecting historical monuments near the mosque.

The project will also cover the rehabilitation and development of 57 sites, including wells, farms and orchards.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived on Thursday morning in Madinah. He was received at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport by Prince Faisal bin Salman, Governor of Madinah Region, and Prince Saud bin Khalid Al-Faisal, Deputy Emir of the region.

During his visit, Prince Mohammed prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque. He also prayed at the Rawdah, a place lying between the Sacred Chamber (known as the Prophet’s house), and the Prophet’s Minbar (or pulpit).

He was received at the Prophet’s Mosque by the Assistant General President for the Affairs of the Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Khudairi, and the imams and muezzins.

The crown prince was accompanied by Prince Faisal bin Salman, Governor of Madinah, and a number of senior officials.
