The Sky Bet Dash should be an explosive affair.
With some decent sprinters charging down the York straight, speed will be the order of the day so it’s a good job ATOMIC LADY (2.40) can go like a bomb. She has a good record at this track having won a course-and-distance nursery last summer before running smart Ever Given to a neck in a hot sales race at the Ebor Meeting.
Her York comeback run came in a very good race and she faced a stiff task from a poor draw at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. Have 2pts each-way at 14-1, with the sponsors and William Hill paying out on five places.
The riders taking part in the Jump Jockeys’ Nunthorpe will have never been so fast. Paul Midgley has won this unique race twice since it was started four years ago. LEODIS DREAM (2.05) looks capable of lifting the prize for the Yorkshire-based trainer again.
Sam Twiston-Davies’ mount has the potential to be very well weighted as he was a smart sprinter when trained by David O’Meara a few years ago.
He lost his way for Joseph O’Brien in Ireland last year but there were signs he was on the way back when third behind a couple of in-form rivals at Doncaster last time out. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Most bookies are paying out on five places with Sky Bet and Hills stretching to six.
Predictably, there’s a big field for Ascot’s Moet & Chandon International Stakes but there doesn’t appear to be many frontrunners in the line up. A lot of the fancied horses are best coming off a fast pace and that looks unlikely.
TACTICAL (3.00) was ridden more prominently than usual in the Group 2 Summer Mile at this track last time but he didn’t see out the distance. He was a little unlucky not to go close in the Buckingham Palace Stakes over this trip at Royal Ascot so the return to 7f should be ideal.
The Queen’s runner did most of his racing in Group races last season and he hasn’t had too many opportunities in handicaps. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1. Several bookies are paying out on six places. Sky Bet and Hills are stretching to seven.
