A man has revealed how a nine-hour Megabus journey from London to Edinburgh turned out to be worse than he expected, but still hasn’t put him off using the service again.

Senior Reporter Sam Ormiston shared his experience for MyLondon, explaining that he bought the £15 overnight coach journey because it was much more affordable than train tickets which started at around £120 for a return journey, four days before his trip.

With everyone looking for a cheaper alternative these days, Sam decided that the 418-mile journey from London Victoria Coach Station to Edinburgh was the better option for him.

An 82-year-old man who decided to climb Scotland’s 282 Munros could claim a world record as the oldest person to complete the daunting challenge.

Nick Gardener decided to try and scale each of the peaks - which are all over 3,000ft - after his wife went into full-time care, and is now just days from reaching the final summit.

Nick, from Gairloch in the Highlands, said he was “knocked for six” when his wife of 50 years, Janet, had to be moved into a care home after developing Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis, becoming particularly upset when she stopped recognising him.

Fire crews raced to the incident at Charlotte Square (James Porteous)

A plush Scots hotel had to be evacuated after smoke was seen "pouring out" from the basement.

Emergency services raced to Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel in Edinburgh city centre after the alarm was raised at around 9.20pm on Friday July 29. Fire crews used a thermal imaging camera to identify the cause of the fire, which was coming from beneath ground level.

Locals and guests watched on as firefighters broke through a basement window from the pavement, with two fire engines deployed to the square. Crews remained at the scene for some time, with the cause of the blaze later being identified as a "small quantity of rubbish on top of a footlight and floorboards."

Delivery driver Harris, 49, could now be jailed after admitting charges of fraud and wasting police time. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he’d been having trouble with the car’s engine and, after getting the insurance payout, planned to have it repaired.
